What is this Project?
The purpose of the project is to provide a high performance transit service that connects major activity nodes or neighborhoods within the Spokane central city area, in a manner that would stimulate new development; maximize regional resources and transit mobility; support local and regional land use goals, objectives and plans; is environmentally sensitive; and garners broad public support.

The Spokane central business district and nearby neighborhoods form an urban core of economic, academic, social, retail, and recreational activity in the inland northwest. This project would stimulate and help to accommodate future growth by providing transit investment to increase urban mobility beyond reasonable walking distance. Reducing the physical barriers that hinder travel within the central city (including the Spokane River, Division Street, I-90, and the Railroad Viaduct) will support the City's goal to increase densities and improve urban places, as listed in the City's Comprehensive Plan.

This project will result in a preferred alternative that can be submitted to the Federal Transit Administration for New Starts/Small Starts funding, as well as other funding sources.

The results of this project will be included into Spokane Transit's long-range plan for a High Performance Transit Network; to provide integrated, all day, frequent, and rapid transit services in the metropolitan area.
